random crap.
Stuff that either came together later or just didn't make it into his write-up because it wasn't big enough.
- His mother died when he was fairly young. He remembers her, but it's been a long time, and so he's pretty used to living with no female presence in the house, because it's just been him, his father, and his brother.
- His father is competent at managing the household, though; no zany sitcom antics. His father is similarly quiet, though not nearly as deadpan as Hideaki.
- His younger brother, on the other hand, is extremely expressive and something of a chatterbox.
- He's a pretty decent cook and good at keeping things neat; not a domestic goddess by any means, but he wanted to be helpful to his father, so he picked up enough.
- Being quiet and mostly deadpan is largely a deliberate choice in how Hideaki has sort of trained himself to act. It's not that he doesn't feel; it's that he consciously decided that being in absolute control of his feelings was completely necessary for what he was going to have to do someday, and he's trained himself into it so well that now it's hard to turn it off and actually express himself.
- He's a pretty good teacher, at least in the context of the dojo. He's been helping his younger brother with his kenjutsu for years, and since moving to Tokyo he's been acting as an assistant instructor at his uncle's dojo as a means of earning his keep. (Which his uncle probably wouldn't require of him, but he likes feeling like he's doing something useful. Even though "saving humanity" is plenty useful enough.)
- Moving to Tokyo has been weird for him! His hometown (Iwakuni) has a population of only about 150,000, so it's...been an experience. (Which is a big part of why he moved out there a year before the battle was actually supposed to start, to get the adjustment phase over and done with so it wouldn't distract him later.)
- When he uses his power, his sword always comes out from his right hand. It does hurt, and it does draw blood, which made zero sense to him when he first learned to do it because the sword isn't actually a physical object until it's out, so why should that happen? His father told him to consider it a physical reminder of his burden as a Seal, to endure pain in order to prevent it from falling on all of humanity. He's never complained about it since.
- He's an excellent student. It doesn't all come naturally, but he works hard to make up for it.
- He loves bubble milk tea.
- He hasn't ever been the type to have much of a social network. Most of the friends he makes are through kenjutsu - which is okay with him because they're more likely than the average joe at school to get him, or at least...get part of him, even if he doesn't really have anyoneyet who can empathize with that whole saving humanity thing.
- 5'6" tall, lean build.
